i’ve had the honor of recording Meadow’s life since she was born. she’s one of THE original {BD}kids and i’m thankful for her loyal mama. looking back at images from her newborn shoot, we’ve grown together really… i can see so much change in my style, composition and artistic quality. but this is more about Meadow! look what a gorgeous little lady she is becoming… having sunflowers this shoot was a very important request, which led me on a wild goose chase for a few weeks. i had a great patch last year to use, but this year apparently the wacky ohio weather pushed things back for farmers. lemons to lemonade though… it led me to find this awesome new location which had a hidden early patch and we had a great time exploring lots of stuff there. only a fraction of it made it to the blog- i have the hardest time narrowing down my faves.meadow was WAY into all the farm animals. i couldn’t believe how up close and friendly she got. they are so fearless before they turn two aren’t they?! we also met the most adorable calf ever that made sarah and i turn vegetarian for the day she found it important to show us her belly it’s really such an honor to be involved in her life this way, capturing memories from each stage and trying to tell the story of who she is for that brief moment. i get to see Meadow a few times a year and i can’t tell you how my heart swells to hear her say my name now-to see her grow leaps and bounds- to get a text from her mama on a wednesday evening that says:

“At this very moment we r in the car and meadow is screaming bridgette at the top of her lungs…I think you have a new admirer =)”

*i have the best job and the sweetest family of clients ever. blessed beyond belief*

Gavin’s little face graced the front of my business cards once upon a time. Since then we’ve only grown closer, and he’s your typical 2 year old boy, bursting at the seams with energy. We planned a fun day out for his toddler shoot, but first I had to stop by his house so he could show off his new baby brother, Hayes. we planned the awesome theme of “Naked Cowboy on Times Square” and headed to downtown Cincinnati…G preferred the “Splash Bridgette and Run Away Before She Tickles You” themewe both ended up wet somehow the real stuff always ends up way better than the plan. nothing like precious wet baby eyelashes to remind me of that.after we all took our turn singing for pennies, and Gavin had tortured the pigeons enough, we decided check out a few of my other favorite locations

daddy has serious drum skills and on any given Sunday you can find him playing for an audience of hundreds. he thought he’d show him how it’s done, but G looks anything but impressed! ha! our fun day out and this resulting shot will stay strong in my memories. stay tuned… it will be my honor to follow Gavin and Hayes{Gavin 2.0} as they grow into little men. {fun fact} Hayes was the baby incubating in my popular boy inside image seen here

most of you know that we have two girls, but we also have a little boy… kinda meet mekhi, my baby from another mother if you will. while were were in vegas, we took him out to red rock for the first time. our godson is just adorable, but when a kid has an awesome personality too, they are that much more irresistable. he is a born entertainer, so funny and sweet and loving and smart!apparently i’m not his only fan-his mama wouldn’t let me bring him home with me, so a peice of my heart now lives in Nevada.

happy 2nd birthday Mekhi. miss you much, xoxoxoxo, and in your own adorable words “wish you well!”

emerging from winter hibernation…

call it hibernation if you want… the way Ohio is trying to tease us with a sneak of spring would make the timing seem that way anyhow. really, i’ve been on a self prescribed sabbatical. the last time you heard from me, my passion for photography had snowballed to the point of near insanity, taking every free moment i had. in november, i looked back at my hundreds of shoots and 1000s of images and realized that my personal folders were thin and few and far between. i worked so much, that i didn’t even grab my camera when i squeezed personal events into the calendar. the girl who always had the camera at the party couldn’t muster the strength to add that nikon bag to her purse shoulder. and worst of all, i didn’t document the growth of my girls in 2009 with the diligence, creativity, and excitement that i hope becomes my legacy to them. if i wasn’t able to document it, maybe it wasn’t even there day to day. maybe i wasn’t being the vibrant mommy my girls know and deserve. they are the reason i bought my camera in the first place. so when they say with a mix of innocence and inherited sass ”you have to go to another photo shoot? can’t you ever take a day off? why do you love photo shoots more than anything?” there’s also an unmistakable hint of disappointment… the kind that offends and jolts you at first, and then echoes in your head and cuts you deep.

so, i put it all on pause. ALL paid work. and to be honest, after Christmas i think i managed to leave my camera alone so long that when the time came to shoot again, i actually had to find it. i left my camera untouched long enough to misplace it{?} {!} i’m not sure how many people will understand the power and surprise of that but some of you will for sure {i’m talking to you- blog readers with raised eyebrows}

so now that my personal life is raw and open for all to see, i hope you take it for what it is. i trust my transparency will connect us a little more. and hopefully, it will buy me some forgiveness from those of you that were ignored in the absence. for a while i maintained a call back list, and some of you received an email letting you know the following news. i’ve decided to get back in the game, but for the best interest of all parties involved, it will be on a limited basis i’m accepting select projects, and my availability will be when my girls are in school. however BDphotography evolves in light of this is exactly what is meant to be. maybe you’ll see alot more newborns… or maybe i continue to have rockin seniors that skip class to melt my lens! whatever the case, i’m excited to see where we go from here. and without further ado… the fabulous miniBDs that hold my heart and hang the moon{} my Bitty doll is six now. babies shouldn’t be six.this final pic pretty much sums up the next phase of {BD}…

so i did Hailey’s newborn pics last year. this image is from that shoot and has been marked as a favorite by more people than any other image i’ve done since. so Hailey, your feet are adored by many look how big she is now!

she did so well in her big girl session. what now? hmmmmm….i say we take her for a treat!rock candy sounded like a great plan but we all underestimated how “melty” it would be. Hailey didn’t seem to mind, but whoever came up with “it’s like taking candy from a baby” really underestimated something too and just a note, i’m a big sucker for hats. if you bring a hat to your session, you can count on it making the blog. i love this one!

it’s so exciting to see my newborns grow into their own personalities. i’m thankful to be part of their story, honored to be chosen as the one to record it, and grateful that they remind me to appreciate the daunting everyday parts of being a mommy because my own babies are growing up just as quickly. thanks for sharing Hailey with me!

i was very excited when Vicki emailed and said she wanted pics of her twins done. my pleasure! i love twins. have i mentioned i wish i had twins? how many times can i say the word twins? ok… so we met at the park, and little man was asleep in his carseat. he woke up and found himself here.

to my newest 3 year old buddies: mom told me you haven’t stopped asking to go back and play at the park with me! makes my heart smile. i can’t wait until next time either…
